We saw this relatively new documentary at the Montreal World Film Festival. It was a pretty good education on the negative effects of colonization and its younger descendants - The World Bank and the FMI. Here's a clip that ticked me off the most.
Fantastic video interview w/ Brian McLaren....touches on emerging church; analytical thinking vs. holistic thinking; individual faith vs. corporate faith;

Great intro to Brian McLaren.
-------------------------------------------------------- It was a great experience to rake the leaves and pick up trash at the park near J & A’s place last Sunday. We met several people from the neighbourhood and made a notable difference in the park. If you would like to suggest a similar project in your neighborhood, contact us.
This Sunday, several among us will be on a trip to New York City for a conference (www.deepshift.org). It will be an opportunity for those who are staying in town to meet with or to invite to your home some friends (curieux or not), neighbours, colleagues, etc. The travelers will be telling the stories of their exploits some future Sunday.
Here's a video of Brian McLaren talking about the meeting:
Several of us watched Garbage Warrior last night after some great barbecue chicken by yours truley. It is about architect Mike Reynolds from New Mexico, who's been experimenting w/ new forms of sustainable housing for the past 30 years. Check out the trailer below.

I don't know if all of you know but a group of us from Emerge(our church)are
planning to go to Kampala in August 2008 to work with boys who are trying to
make a life for themselves off the streets and at a school for displaced
children who otherwise would not get any schooling. We will be working in the
arts, music ,dance photography and art.called The Red Hippo Project (Hippos are
the national animal and they sweat red sweat hence the name!) Working alongside
the teachers and helping the boys to become performers (they are extremely
talented). We see this as a long term project but eventually for Ugandans to run
the arts programme. Arts is so much a part of culture and community but where
people are struggling to get by each day they do not have the energy to enable
this part of them to surface this is what we hope to encourage.
Soooooooooooo! Hence this email to tell you of our
1st Fund raiser at Riversedge Church in NDG on Cote St.Antoine. It is an amazing
line up of dancers and singers and it only costs $10's students/children and
seniors and $15 for the rest of us. Starts 7pm see the poster below. If you can
come it would be great to see you. Thanks so much and please pray for us. Sue
Here's an interesting site to see what various families around the world eat in a single week. Pictured here is the Ahmed family of Cairo. It is interesting to not just look at the volume but the difference in processed vs. fresh. Each family also list their expenditures and favorite dishes.
