______________________________
You (gals AND guys) are all cordially invited to celebrate the imminent arrival of Joseph’s and Claudia’s little one to the world! There’ll be a shower à la Jane Austen – a fancy and fabulous “tea party” -- at Alice and Pierre’s house this Sunday, February 17 from 2 to 5 pm. You can contribute by bringing a dainty snack appropriate for such a prime and proper occasion.
If you want to offer a gift to Baby LeBel, here are a few suggestions: “coupons” for homemade meals for her parents after the birth, a gift certificate at the Bummies store (on Mont Royal Avenue), clothing for an older baby (6 months to a year), music or books.

the mall for supper. -When we're done supper, we'll go to the pool hall
inside the mall until late. We look forward to seeing you there!! Bonnie
Have you ever gone out to an Indian restarant and wished you could make the
same food at home? Have you ever tried to make curry at home and ended up with a
frying pan full of dissapointing, unidientified yellow lumps?
Sunday chez Dan and Karen, you are invited to explore some of
the keys to making curry. I (Karen) humbly propose to present
this not because I am an expert (which I am truly not!) but because with the
right ingredients and recipies I went from the world's worst curry cook to
making some very tasty dishes. We will discuss the essential spices and where to
get them, cover how to make panir (fresh milk cheese) and how to prepare lentils
and describe the three techniques for currying vegetables. This curry night will
be exclusively vegetarian - but don't despair! You will find curried vegetables
as enjoyable and filling as a meat dish. I will also share some of the
interesting principles I have learned about vegetarian Indian cooking. If
nothing else, you will learn an inexpensive and tasty way of cooking!
you're interested in coming, email me and I will assign an ingredient
for you to bring (it will cost less than $4, don't worry!). We will
make three or four curries, rice, spiced tea and I will try to bring some
desserts from my favourite Indian restaurant. After the cooking is done, we will
enjoy the fruits of our labour by having a meal together! If time permits, I
would also like to read a short story from a Canadian/American/East Indian
author that I found quite eye-opening.
In order to allow enough time for
the preparation of panir and lentils, we will start at 3 PMand probably finish around7 or 8 (you're
welcome to stay later of course!). If you would like to come but can't make it
that early, you are still welcome - just let me know so I don't assign you an
ingredient we will need earlier on. We will be cooking 1 curry at a time so
there will be plenty of time to cover the basics throughout the evening. In the
unlikely event that this event is so popular that everyone can't fit in our
kitchen at once, we will cover the curry basics with different groups during the
preparation of the different curry dishes.
